I had a quick look at the PC - but I couldnt find any information on the MOBO - Motherboard - can you tell me if it has an AGP 4x or 8x or maybe even a PCI-E slot for a graphics card - it should show a layout of the Motherboard and tell you what the slot is in the manual

Hmm - AGP 2x and 4x is VERY old I had a look on some sites - but none of them stock anything before AGP 8x

My ati 9800 pro 8x agp card ran fine in my msi K7N420 PRO 4x agp mobo.

Also had geforce 4200ti 8x card running in my old amd k6-2 500mhz agp 2x system.

I think you can use a newer agp card but it will obviously only run at the maximum speed supported by your motherboard.

My msi K7N420 PRO system with 9800 pro and athlon xp1800 would run half life 2 ok @ 4x agp but had to buy a new system to play the latest games like cod4.

Your board is an AGP 2.0 standard, which is 1.5V.

AGP 3.0 standard ie 8x is supposed to be 0.8V.

Guess what - in the real world, that's a load of rubbish!

That's why your x8 card works in a x4 board - they are 1.5V universal cards.

There is some really good info here, it will with card selection.

AGP compatibility for sticklers

Your chipset, SiS650 is a Universal AGP motherboard, and should take universal AGP 3.0 (x8) standard cards at 1.5V

The problem with buying an AGP 8x card is that it will only run at 1/2 speed as yours is AGP4x.

I would opt for a new MOBO (with onboard GPU) that takes AGP 8x if I were you, they are only cheap and then get the AGP 8x card at a later date.
