Windows Server 2003 BSOD during fresh install

Help! Reinstalling Windows Server 2003 Enterprise from CD on new 320 GB disk

using 80 GB partition. Get stopcd Page_Fault_In_NonPaged_Area 0x00000050

(0xA24960F4, 0x0, 0x80865DAB, 0x0).

Had been previously installed on a 40 GB drive and then SP1 and SP2

subsequently applied and ran ok until other blue screens occurred. That's

when I replaced the hard disk. BIOS had been updated some time ago without

issue.

Any ideas? Can contact me at mark@planosuperbowl.com. Thanks.

Sounds like there's some bad hardware. I'd probably start with the RAM.

This message happened to me a few years ago on Win2k workstation -

temperature problem caused by really filthy fan and heatsink on processor.

Re: Windows Server 2003 BSOD during fresh install

Thank you both. I reset the new drive to CSEL rather than Master, replaced

the cable, reseated both memory sticks. Now I cannot get BIOS to recognize

the IDE disks. Bad IDE Controller0 on the MB?

Planning to download a memory tester from the Internet.

Tested RAM and it appears ok. Now I can't get BIOS to recognize the IDE

drives. Have cleared CMOS but no change. Changed ribbon cable and both drives

set to CSEL.

Any further thoughts.

Does it find the old drives? What mobo are you using? The mobo might have

failed.

Re: Windows Server 2003 BSOD during fresh install

Thanks for the reply, Dave. What is "mobo"? New term for me. IN any case, it

turns out that it was IDE0 controller on the motherboard that was bad. Found

out when I connected the ribbon cable to IDE1. Connected the CDrom cable to

IDE0 and then the hard drives were Auto Detected but the CDRoms were not.

Bought new motherboard, ram and power supply along with SATA drive. We'll see

if Server 2003 or Longhorn fuss now.

Re: Windows Server 2003 BSOD during fresh install

Dave,

Ah, yes. Was using FIC with Intel 2.8 processor. I am replacing it with an

Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 ghz processor. Good/bad?
