Guest Computer geek Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Can someone advise me on how to replace and rebuild a drive in my RAID 5 array. I have a Compaq ProLiant ML370 with 3 drives configured for RAID 5. One drive failed and it is currently running on 2 drives. I have a used drive from another old machine that I can use to rebuild the array. If I shut it down and just replace the failed drive with the new (used) one, will it automatically start to rebuild when I boot the server back up? Will it prompt me for anything? Do I need to "initialize" the drive? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

It should be....even if it's bigger, it should be the same speed (you'll just lose the extra space). > If I shut it down Shouldn't be necessary if they're hot-swap drives. > and just replace the failed drive with > the new (used) one, will it automatically start to rebuild when I boot > the server back up? It ought to, but you can go into the HP management tools to check. I suggest reviewing HP's support site or help pages/doc before doing this. >Will it prompt me for anything? But because of the age I am unsure if its hot-swappable drives and controller
