Mapped Drives in the Internet Zone

As per KB929728.

We are having this issue with Windows Server 2003 SP1, including ie7. One

of our applications uses compiled HTML help files on a remote server with a

mapped drive.

The application cannot be changed, this is not an option.

I have used the registry to allow remote access to help files for the local

Intranet Zone.

This can be tested using a UNC path, and works successfully. When using the

mapped drive in the same fashion the application would, it fails.

I have tried using Internet Explorer and pasting the mapped drive path in to

the address bar. Internet Explorer stays in the Internet Zone.

I have spoken to Microsoft and they have informed me that this fix is not

available for Server 2003, although it is referenced in the applies to

section of the KB article.

I cannot find any other articles relating to this issue and I am confident

this is the issue.

Is there a workaround or another hotfix? I don't wish to allow HTML help to

run in the Internet Zone.
