Guest Jim H. Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Money's tight and anyway, I've always been completely satisfied with my Office 97 and the upgrade to Outlook 98 but I just have to get off this Pentium II (running 98SE). So I purchased a 3G P4 (Asus) machine for a very low price and have loaded my Office 97 onto XP Pro. (I've read elsewhere in this forum that this will work fine.) Now, when I attempt to do the upgrade from Outlook 97 to Outlook 98, I get the following error message: "Setup has encountered a problem which makes it necessary for you to reboot your machine before setup can continue. Please reboot your machine and then rerun setup" However, rebooting has no effect. I still get the same message each time I try the upgrade. BTW, the install process progresses quite far, allowing me to enter the product key, choose the location for the program files, check for previous versions of Outlook, etc., but when it finally gets down to installing files, it bombs with the error message shown above. Any help will be so, so welcomed. -- Jim H.
Guest DL Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Re: Outlook 98 Upgrade keeps failing on XP Have you tried uninstalling OL97 then installing OL98? You dont usually need the qualifying product installed to use the upgrade cd, though you may need the old cd avilable to point to during the installation "Jim H." <JimH@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:5C943B30-4059-4F56-8D87-8D77EDA5CD92@microsoft.com... > Money's tight and anyway, I've always been completely satisfied with my > Office 97 and the upgrade to Outlook 98 but I just have to get off this > Pentium II (running 98SE). Best to ask the experts in an Outlook newsgroup.
Guest Jim H. Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Re: Outlook 98 Upgrade keeps failing on XP DL, Why would I want to try uninstalling Office 97 (with its Outlook 97)? I just did a clean install of Office 97 for the first time. Every other program worked fine including Outlook 97. It's just the Outlook 98 Upgrade won't load. Keep getting this "reboot" message I mentioned. If it will help to uninstall Office 97, I'll do it but please explain why this would help. -- Jim H. Guest scottfree46 Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 RE: Outlook 98 Upgrade keeps failing on XP I am struggling with this same prob, please let me know the fix if you found one. Guest Gary S. Terhune Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Re: Outlook 98 Upgrade keeps failing on XP Please go ask this question in an Outlook newsgroup. You are much more likely to get a decent response. It is not really a Windows XP problem, and if anyone has found the answer, it will be more widely known over there. -- Gary S.
