I've had this problem forever but always put it down to the one mouse and keyboard set. I got a new set today though and the exact same problem.

Its a wireless set and are supposed to be plug and play but although its happy to install the keyboard drivers the mouse never works straight off.

It comes up as an unidentified device in the device manager. To get it working I have to choose to update the driver to any unreccommened mouse driver. Then it will appear under mice, if I then choose to update the driver again I get a list of three options and on choosing HID compliant mouse its working.

So far I've not tried a mouse which I can't get working through this method but it seems to be an awful lot of hassle though when vista clearly has the right drivers. Also since I have to do it most times if I unplug the reciever and plug it back in.

Cheers

In case it makes any difference it a medion mouse from aldi, but as I said it does appear to be a dislike for wireless USB mice in general.

Oh and I do apologise for the personification, lol

Did you install the keyboard and mouse drivers that came with the gear before inserting the keyboard and mouse Shrimps?

There's no disk, its just plug and play, as I've said its does work I just have to spend 5 minutes messing about in the decvice manager, which seems daft.

I did actually get software with my last set, mainly for all the extra buttons on the mouse I think but they weren't compatible with vista and I kept getting the blue screen, so uninstalled them forgot about the extra buttons and used the drivers available on vista.

So if your using generic vista drivers for this new K/B and mouse is all ok?

Leave the wireless receiver in at all times.

yeah, I know its just that surely vista should install the drivers that work automatically or at least after you've manually showed it once which ones are needed, maybe I'm expecting too much. I just find it strange it will install the keyboard drivers but not the ones for the mouse.

since I travel between uni and home quite a bit its not possible to have the receiver plugged in all the time, which really is the main reasonfor me asking to save me hassle. But if its not possible then that's fine I guess.

Thanks for the help.

yeah I put in the product number (85877) in the drivers search and get a blank page with "any new drivers or updates available for your product will be available here" at the top.

Although I know nothing of any previous gear, the underlined bit tells me that the whole device may not be full compatible with Vista, hence the need to mess about. However you do have it working now so best of luck with it.
