I have a Sony Vio grv 16v laptop and the screen is full of coloured Squres and Oblongs, and i am unable to use it in this condition. Ocassionaly it will startup normaly, but not often. It is running on xp . Is this a graphic problem or motherboard issue. Regards in anticipation:mad:

This sounds like your onboard graphics are dying, have you tried hooking it up to an external monitor?

If the picture is ok then obviously the laptop screen is finished.

My money is on your inbuilt graphics though.

If it's the inbuilt graphics then you need a new MOBO - I am not sure if you can change the GPU on that model - and if you can it wont be cheap - easier to replace the whole MOBO - or get a new lappy
