When clicking on video clips online in mpeg or wmv etc they normally start up in media player. However this does not work now and instead it tries to open a page and displays the error :Cannot display webpage

It used to work fine and the only change to my computer is that I have installed VLC player, but that shouldnt affect it,should it??

I need VLC to play the files that media player cannot.

Help please

It sounds like you have edited the 'open with' option - get some kind of file that you are referring to and save it to the desktop then right click on the file and then properties - then under the general tab at the top of the description should say opens with - I am guessing yours is set to IE or similar - click change and find media player and apply then exit and all should be ok :D

Have done that and now it downloads the clip to a temp file then plays.whereas before it just went straight to media player and played.

So still not quite right??

When you go to "open With" make sure you dont just choose from what is suggested. Select Choose program and then media player and then check the box that say always use the selected program etc.

I am working from XP so it may be slightly different in vista.

Sorry gunslinger but I am not sure what you mean by ''it".

Do you mean that media player won't play the DVD or that the PC won't play it in some other program like WinDVD?

When you go into My Computer does the actual DVD show in your D drive.

Have you made sure that DVD video is ticked in the file type box in Media Player tools?
