Update to iTunes installation in Win9X/ME

Angel, I am truly sorry, I must to apologize to you. I completely missed

the link to the iTunes 7.3.2 version that was suggested to you, on the Apple

site.

I just happened to need to go back for the new version for a VISTA box I am

working on [itself a wasted effort as the new iTunes would not download to

this 9X box] and noticed the Windows 2000 link at the bottom of the download

windows. {okay, don't hit me}

About iTunes 7.3.2 for Windows 2000

iTunes is the best way to enjoy your digital music and video with your PC,

iPod and Apple TV. iTunes 7.3.2 for Windows 2000 is designed to work with

Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 or later.

Again, I apologize for my previous error. I'm not sure which link will work

for you. Having stated that, now comes the "well that was a waste of hours

of download time [modem]" it won't work, and why Apple may not have created

a player for iPod/iTunes for 9X/ME:

Having expanded [administrative install] the itunes.msi:

The Apple software appears to be using third party created files/drivers.

HAL.

Moreover, the application requires at least QuickTime 7.1.6.200 [included

in the master file] be installed.

It might be interesting to see if perhaps there were GEAR drivers created

for 9X/ME which would allow its usage, though they would likely need

modified to work within Apple's software.

Re: Update to iTunes installation in Win9X/ME

Hi MEB,

Na, I won't hit you. Apologize accepted. I do not think I can use it

with the windows '98. Those are only download sites. I stopped when it

wanted to download it . I did not want to take the chance of it messing up

my computer. I had just got done with fixing it. I had to get rid of the

SpyBot and ZA. I discovered that the SpyBot updates had messes it up. Then I

reinstalled the SpyBot and right now it is working GREAT! (Knock on

wood!!!).

One of the ladies in one of my classes, downloaded the Podcasts from

the professor at the library, for her own use because she could not get on

the web with her computer. She burned some copies for me. To me, she is a

real angel!

Thanks MEB for the links. I will keep them in case that the person that

promised me the computer With ME will come through with it. He still does

not have all of his stuff off it. It has been +or-6 months now!

Okay, but I think I threw you off track, the application will NOT

apparently work with 9X or ME.

If you look below, you'll find that it calls aspects/files/functions which

are not available in either OS, just the NT based systems, and 2000

specifically [XP and VISTA got new a application].

So really, even though we couldn't find the file the first go-round, it

wouldn't have done you any good,, unless you have W2K.

Re: Update to iTunes installation in Win9X/ME

Hi MEB,

Someone who knows computers said that *it may* work with ME. I

guess the key word would be *MAY*. He did not tell me how hard it would be

to do it or how good it would work. He builds them himself for his own use.

He works in Graphics. I think I will stick to trying to do it at the

University Computer Lab. I have been waiting for a LONG time to get that old

computer of his. Promised some + or -6 months. I am glad I have not been

holding my breath. Thanks for the heads up.

That is encouraging, but I would want to see how he gets it to work, and

how well it does... Please keep me informed, if there is some way to easily

port the application, I am definately interested [and I'm sure millions of

others may be as well].

If he is unwilling to post publicly, send him to my site and have him send

me the mods via email [the address is encrypted but is automatically

decrypted in mail progs when the link is pressed] or at least the notes on

how and I WILL test them, keeping him anonymous if desired, or he can do so

via something like MSFN.

In fact, I keep waiting for someone to pop into one of these discussions

with a real program to access iTunes, be it a port or otherwise. Though DRM,

Apple's licensings, and other aspects likely come into play ....
