Plastic Nev Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Hi Grandad, and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. I can only think she may be using a different program for her E mail other than outlook express. There are many, such as "Incredimail" This may be the reason, but why only forwarded mail gets mangled when direct mail doesn't, may be a mystery. If you can find out what she is using we may be able to help from that. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. GRANDAD Posted December 11, 2008 Author Posted December 11, 2008 JUST FOUND OUT THAT SHE IS USING OUTLOOK EXPRESS--THE SAME AS ME ?. I HAVE OF LATE HAD A COUPLE OF EMAILS, AS FORWARDS, WHICH HAVE BEEN A OK. I AM WONDERING IF SOME OF HER FRIENDS ARE USING A SPAM TYPE FILTER WHICH MAY ALTER THE EMAIL. ? SHE SAYS THAT NO ONE ELSE HAS COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS JUMBLE OF EMAILS, JUST ME--STRANGE. ANY THOUGHTS PLEASE. Quote
BeeCeeBee Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Hi Grandad, Can you ask her to go to tools in Outlook express and then the send tab and see what is ticked. Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Mark Twain
Tootech Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 I'm just wondering if the 'mish mash' you refer to is actually an attachment that has been forwarded incorrectly. Is it all forwarded emails, or just some of them? Quote
RandyL Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 It's been a long time but I have got some in the past that resembles your issue. All I know is that the original sender was using AOL mail. Not the people that sent them to me. The original emails that were forwarded were AOL. I can't remember the exact details but I think it might have shown as an attachment. Sorry I can't offer more. GRANDAD Posted December 12, 2008 Author Posted December 12, 2008 HI TOOTECH @ RANDYL THANKS FOR YOUR REPLYS 1-SHE FORWARDS EMAILS TO ME SOME OF WHICH ARE FORWARDS TO START WITH. ie COULD BE SECOND OR THIRD HAND. SHE JUST CLICKS FORWARD AND ADDS MY EMAIL ADDRESS ON. 2- THEY DO NOT COME THROUGH AS ATTACHMENTS, JUST PAGE AFTER PAGE OF WHAT I THINK IS 'PROGRAMME TYPE JARGON.' 4- IT MAY WELL BE THAT SOME ORIGINALS ARE FROM -'AOL. 5-I ASK NOW IF THE EMAIL WAS IMPORTANT, IF NOT THEN I JUST DELETE 6-NOT ALL EMAILS ARE AFFECTED, JUST SOME. 7-ITS NOT A MAJOR PROBLEM BUT ME BEING ME I JUST LIKE TO TRY AND FIND AN ANSWER-EVEN IF ITS NOT THE ONE I WANT. OTHERS MAY? HAVE HAD OR HAVE A SIMULAR PROBLEM. MANY THANKS. Quote
RandyL Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 You're like me. Even if it's not a problem you can't live with you still want to know why. I like that. I still suspect one of the senders that have forwarded it has done so from an AOL account. View the senders in the email header and it might give you some insight. On a slightly different tact I would like to make a suggestion for you to pass along. It's always better to pull the body out of the email and add it to a newly created email rather then just forward it or forward a forward of a forward from a forward etc. etc. There are reasons for this. For one thing everyone in the whole world doesn't see all the recipients address from the beginning of time on these forwards. Another reason is major scrolling or opening until you get to the original email depending on what clients or web mails people use. It also reduces major clutter. Besides just being good manners to do it this way it will also help ensure the mails get sent and recieved properly. If there is a problem it then becomes easier to isolate it. And as a final note I tend not to even bother opening forwards or multiple forwards as it's just a nusance for no reason usually. Next time you get one of these ask for the email to be sent as a new email instead of a forward to see what happens. Keep on learning sir. Quote We are all members helping other members. struggling Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 It's always better to pull the body out of the email and add it to a newly created email rather then just forward it or forward a forward of a forward from a forward etc. etc. I realy like this idea, RandyL. Nice and clean. Can you explain how to "pull the body out"? Quote A sure sign of wisdom is being able to say "I don't Know".
BeeCeeBee Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 :) Hi struggling. Randy has just been watching too much CSI on TV. In this case what he is referring to is simply to highlite and copy what you want to forward and paste it into a new email created by you. Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Goku Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Hello Struggling. To pull the body out means, in simple terms, to copy the text in the message and paste it into a new composition. This way, the recipients won't be bothered by a whole string of duplicate messages that you usually get on a forwarded message. Besides, it keeps other users' contact details discrete so it is advisable to adopt this practice into regular use. I am sure Randy will explain it better when he comes online. Hope that helps. :) -- Goku Quote
