Hello All.

I have just joined the site on a recommendation from a friend who said it is a very helpful place.

I am not the best with computers for some reason when i touch them something always goes wrong so am trying to change the trend and learn a little bit.:o

Ok now down to the problem i have. I am looking to upgrade my graphics card in my Dell 3100c, at the moment it only has a shared memory on board graphics card "so i have being told" which is very poor when trying to play games or watch football on the internet.

I was wondering if anybody could recommend what i should be looking for when trying to get a new grapics card as in spec, type, model number, cost Etc.

Also i see they sell alot on Ebay, is this a place i should start looking.

All Help and Advise Greatly Appreciated.

Hey there.

Okay, based on the information you've stated, it appears that your system requires a PCI-Express low-profile graphic card.

There are some that are available on the folllowing site:

Cheap ATI Graphics Cards From Ebuyer!

These are however quite expensive. This is purely because you need a low-profile graphic card.

If these are out of your budget or maybe you don't wish to pay that much, then I recommend browsing Ebay or simaliar sites with the information I have given you.

Hope that helps.

If you need further assistance, don't hesitate to ask. :)

Your Dell spec is defined by the Dell Service Tag number, stuck on your pc- you can use it to look up your machine on the Dell website.

The card you refer to is a PCI-E x16 card.

The slot on your machine is a PCI-E x1, below is a section from the manual:

They are totally different. I suspect a x16 card will not work in a x1 slot unfortunately.

This may turn out to be a tricky upgrade!

Some peoples and manufacturers terms of low profile differ somewhat - some class low profile as the backing plate being the same length as any other and the actual card and PCB being smaller.

Others class the backing plate to be half height and then the PCB too -

Its not easy to describe and without pics of both we are somewhat unlikely to say yes that will fit.
