Guest MarcusB Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 I using Ntbackup which is native windows backup. Many people around are using Symantec backup. Why should I use Symantec? What are advantages? Regards Marcus
Guest Newell White Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 RE: NTBackup Why indeed! I have no experience of Symantec backup, but if it is anything like Backup Exec it is bloatware which may sometimes fail to start all it's 'automatic' services after a server reboot. If you read this newsgroup you will discover that many people also think (a) It's cool to have more than one NIC on a server (b) It's OK to plug a broadbabd router into their LAN without disabling its DHCP © They don't need old-fashioned WINS any more. Fact is most people aren't as smart as they try to appear. But if they have spent their own or their employer's money on a piece of software, and it is no better than something free, they may be coy about admitting it. -- Newell White "MarcusB" wrote: > I using Ntbackup which is native windows backup. Guest Johan Strange Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 RE: NTBackup Hi Marcus, I use Symantec Backupexec for many of my clients and I have never had issue with it, in fact in many cases it is an essential component due the Agents used. If you are familiar with NTBackup why not look at this link and see these advantages for yourself. http://www.symantec.com/business/products/overview.jsp?pcid=2254&pvid=57_1 It is worth looking at and of course you need to judge for yourself if it fits in with your environment. You are probably the best person to know if there is a business case for it. Backups are vital and getting your backup right makes can make the difference between staying in business and going bust. -- Johan Strange _______________________________ MCSE, MCSA + Messaging, CompA+ Logic42 Computer Solutions - The answer to everything http://www.logic42.co.uk "Newell White" wrote: > Why indeed! > I have no experience of Symantec backup, but if it is anything like Backup > Exec it is bloatware which may sometimes fail to start all it's 'automatic' > services after a server reboot. > > If you read this newsgroup you will discover that many people also think > > (a) It's cool to have more than one NIC on a server > > (b) It's OK to plug a broadbabd router into their LAN without disabling its > DHCP > > © They don't need old-fashioned WINS any more. > > Fact is most people aren't as smart as they try to appear. > But if they have spent their own or their employer's money on a piece of > software, and it is no better than something free, they may be coy about > admitting it. > -- > Newell White > > > "MarcusB" wrote: > > > I using Ntbackup which is native windows backup.
