Guest ykffc Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 OS: Windows Terminal server 2003' VPN client: CISCO vpn client I am a bit confused. Here I am only mentioning the same TERMINAL server all the way. 1) One day I defined a few printers in the terminal server with my Domain logon ID. (BTW, my logon has admin prvileges on this machine). I am on the physical network when defining them ( not VPN ). Then I logoff and asked other Domain users to RDP to the terminal server, they can all see the printers from their Windows -> control panel -> printers / faxes applet. 2) Today I sign-on as usual. I define one new printer \\xxx.xxx.xx.xx\printer with my logon but the printer is a local printer connected to a REMOTE pc with the above IP address xxx.xxx.xx.xx when the REMOTE PC RRR is connected via VPN. I am on the physical network when I defined it. 3) I left office and go to the place where remote PC RRR was. I signon to the office network via VPN. I want to use my printer when I am working on the terminal server. So I run RDP to the terminal server. I can see \\xxx.xx.xx.xx\printer I defined earlier in step 2, after bringing up the printer/faxes applet. Now I add another printer \\aa.aa.aa.aa\printer because aaa.aa.aa.aa is the then current IP address. Later my connection is disconnected due to interruption. I reconnect with IP address bbb.bb.bb.bb using VPN. And I have to define another printer in the terminal server as \\bbb.bb.bb.bb\printer . I can see all the 3 printers from the terminal server under by logon. ( \\xxx.xx.xx.xx\printer or \\aa.aa.aa.aa\printer or \\bbb.bb.bb.bb\printer) 4) Now the following is what surprises me. a) if another user is signing onto the terminal server from the local network, they can't see any one of three printers ( \\xxx.xx.xx.xx\printer or \\aa.aa.aa.aa\printer or \\bbb.bb.bb.bb\printer) b) if another user is signing onto the terminal server and his pc is connected via VPN, they can't see any one of three printers ( \\xxx.xx.xx.xx\printer or \\aa.aa.aa.aa\printer or \\bbb.bb.bb.bb\printer) If they want to use my then current printer, they have to add \\bbb.bb.bb.bb\printer themself. c) If I asked someone to signon to the terminal server using my logon on my behalf from the local network, I can only see \\xxx.xx.xx.xx\printer but NOT \\aa.aa.aa.aa\printer and NOT \\bbb.bb.bb.bb\printer. I hope it makes sense to you. If so, are you saying this is by design !! If yes, then the following is true: "I want to pre-define some printers in the termianl server that is pointed to a remote PC that will be connected via VPN. My user will not see them unless they connect the printer themself" Looks like non VPN users cannot see printers defined by themselves when using vpn.
