Tootech Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Hi Adam, Does your computer start up ok? According to Windows, what files are missing? Quote
tricey Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 Missing Files Hi, I can not get the computer to turn on. Its the <systemfiles/fat32/hal.dll> Many Thanks Adam Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Tell us exactly what you did Tricey and what does it say on that other copy of XP that you have? Quote
RandyL Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 If all else fails you could restore to factory settings. Look at the pdf users manual file. Quote We are all members helping other members. Guest Wolfeymole Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Are you saying the pc will not turn at all whatsoever or it will but you immediately see that error when it tries to load XP? Quote
tricey Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 I see it immidately as it tries to load XP Quote
tricey Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 I personally think that I need the original XP disc. But Acer just ignore me. Useful Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Did you make back up disks for this pc as is detailed in that PDF document? Quote
tricey Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 Yes, but it says you need to go into "Start>" to do that. I have made one though, and does that disc hold the System Files Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 This is what it says ate the end of that PDF Restoring the system using a bootable optical disk You can select to restore your system from a bootable optical disk created previously. You will need to adjust your BIOS settings to boot from the optical drive first, and insert the first disk before rebooting your system. Please do this. Quote
tricey Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 It was made when I first got the computer, there is only one disc Thanks for all this help. Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Have you gone into the bios and changed the boot order to CDROM first, saved the settings, inserted the disk and then exited. Quote
tricey Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 How long are you staying online please. As I will do all this later mate. I cannot do this now. Does the backup disc have System Files on it Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 That disk should have a complete image of your operating system when you first made it and should restore all system files back to full working order. Bear in mind this is only an image of the operating system and none of your added software will be included, in other words it will be a Back to Factory condition. Quote
tricey Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 Could it hold everything on one disc LOL Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 XP is roughly 1.5GB in size so therefore it should have asked you when you made the disk to use a DVD disk which is 4.7GB in size. Quote
tricey Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 Well, I have restore disc that they made, but I have tried them. And I have a backup disc, that I am going to try. Many Thanks I will tell you the results Quote
tricey Posted December 6, 2008 Author Posted December 6, 2008 I have a partition Manager, and have inserted it. But I need to start Windows to access the partition Manager Help Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 Why are you using a partition manager program Tricey? Why have you not followed the advice given so far? Quote
tricey Posted December 6, 2008 Author Posted December 6, 2008 I used my backup disc, and it said please insert disc 2. But I only have one disc. Many thanks Adam Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 When I made Recovery disks for my Vista system it told me before starting that I would need 3 DVD disks. It appears that you have missed this aspect for some obscure reason and what is more confusing that when it did make a back up it would have asked you to insert a No2 blank disk. Have you actually read the PDF document that states you can press Alt + F10 to get into the Recovery Management section on boot up? Quote
tricey Posted December 6, 2008 Author Posted December 6, 2008 Right that problem is kinda solved. But........ I have got the pc to half startup, when i get to the Windows XP setup (Were you enter your information eg. Computer Name, Time, Network Settings and whatever else) I enter my name and then it crashes when I press "Next" or "Skip". It says "The system has not been fully installed, Please reinstall the system." Now I have doen that and nothing has changed. This ain't good, is it? Thanks Adam Quote
