Im trying to convert .asf files to something else like .avi or mpeg. Ive tried 2 different programs for this, Star ASF converter and Boilsoft ASF converter. When i try and load the source file, both programs have come up with errors saying the cannot open the file or cant load it.

So im guessing this is a problem with the original .asf file? Anyone know how i can fix this or convert them some other way?

Any help would be great

Thanks

Hello Raj. There are plenty of applications out there that claim to do the conversion but I am unsure whether they will work or not. Alternately, I would suggest you to try playing the original file with VideoLAN VLC Media Player. If VLC encounters issues with the file, then there is a high probability that the file is corrupted or damaged. In that case, you will have to re-obtain the complete file from another location.

Hope that helps. :)

Hi Goku, thanks for the help.

Yes the video does play in VLC but i was hoping to convert as i want to edit it and my video editor doesnt support this type of file. This happens with multiple .asf files, not just the one.

Ive recorded these files off a stream hence the .asf extension, does this mean that the method or program i recorded with is corrupt?

edit: one of the .asf converters is saying that my.asf source file is not a valid media file!
