Thin Clients dumped off TS 2003

We've got this problem with some of our thin clients getting bumped off the

server with the message "Because of a protocol error, this seesion will be

disconnected. Please try connecting again" after about 2 or 3 minutes of

inactivity from the user, starting about a month ago.

I thought it might have been packets being dropped, and after harassing our

ISP, and going through hundreds and hundreds of traceroute logs, its not

that. I have found a potential fix at

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824683, but we don't have access to Platform

Builder, so it's not much use to us, plus they all just started dropping off

at the same time, which is the real puzzle.

To make matters even more confusing, it only affects the TC's running

Windows CE .NET 4.1 - the Windows CE 5 (I think, they look like XP) Embedded

thin clients and the workstations are fine.

After a bunch of Google searching, the only other thing that pops up is the

visual style on the server, but thats been set to Windows Classic through the

control panel initally, then through GPO ever since Windows Server 2003 was

installed.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Jeff

Have you checked with the manufacturer of the thin clients if there

is a firmware update which contains the KB824683 fix?

Since this started at a particular time for all clients involved,

what was changed on the server just prior to the problem?

Re: Thin Clients dumped off TS 2003

Am in touch with the local importers and distributors, but they aren't being

much help, Im still on their backs either way - they are Hyundai thin

clients, and emailing Hyundai IT isn't netting much help either...

Thats what stumps me - nothing has changed on the server - Automatic Updates

have been turned of for months (Service Pack 2 caused us serious issues, so

AU has been turned off since then), and no settings have been tampered with

(Im the only one with admin access, and am heavily of the mindset "if it

ain't broke, dont fix it").

Are there any obvious settings on the server I should be double checking? Im

pretty certain that I've triple checked everything, but having someone else's

thoughts is a clear asset in trying to figure stuff like this out...

Cheers,

Jeff

We have hundreds of Neoware terminals in the field and don't see this -

consider returning them and getting Neoware units.
