Guest Wolfeymole Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Ok Windows should have reloaded the generic device drivers for those drives unless they are a particular brand that need specific drivers, Sony is one for example. What is the make and model of the PC? Quote

Tootech Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 If you are still having problems, try this: Uninstall any CD writing software you have, restart your computer 1. Start Registry Editor. Start - Run - Regedit 2. Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} 3. On the Edit menu, click Delete , and then click OK . 4. Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} 5. On the Edit menu, click Delete , and then click OK . 6. Quit Registry Editor. 7. Restart your computer. If all is now ok, reinstall your CD writing software. Quote

Tootech Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Microsoft recommend you uninstall CD writing software prior to attempting the fix, just in case it messes up your writing software. To be honest, it never has done on systems I have worked on. Quote

Dalo Harkin Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Just re read this post - Are you an administrator on the PC? when you uninstall the drivers for the opticals if there are any present - do you then restart and await for windows to try and pick the drivers up? if you go into device manager - it will tell you the make of the Optical drives - from that you can then get a firmware update - or try the original driver again Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.

Goku Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Hello Alfa. Please download the attached archive and extract it. If you are unsure on how to open the archive, use the instructions from here and continue. After you have extracted the archive, you should obtain a file labeled Fix CD Drive.reg. Double-click on the file and you will be asked whether you want to import the information into the registry or not. Answer Yes to the prompt and sometime later another dialog box will pop up informing you that the operation was successful. After you have done the above, reboot your computer. You should now be able to access and use your CD drive. http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/images/colortheory/attach/zip.gif Fix CD Drive.zip Note: Using the above registry fix might cause some programs to dysfunction or work incorrectly. In that case, please reinstall the affected programs to resolve their respective errors. Hope that helps. :) -- Goku Quote
