Right click on My Computer and choose Manage.

Click on Storage and then Disk Management.

Tell us if the drives are listed there.

If not tell us if they are listed in the POST screen on boot up.

This is an example of a POST screen where a Western Digital Hard drive is the Primary Master.

The Secondary Master is not named but is obviously the CDROM drive.

Ok

Now because they are listed in the POST screen does not meant that they are functioning correctly.

What makes me think that these devices are either faulty or not connected correctly is their absence in Disk Management.

If you have made sure that when you had the side off the pc that these devices were connected correctly and are still not working then they have died.

So thats it then ? i only replaced the Lite on one a year ago surely thats not dead allready, could it not be the lead/ribbon that connects the 2 devices together ????

Hi Alpha,

Although not often it happens, but in this case it may be so, as both drives have failed together, it may just be the cable connecting them to the mother board. For the price of a new cable from the likes of Maplin or E buyer it is worth a try before throwing both drives.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem as you. Both drives showing in the bios both showing in the device manager list but with an exclamation mark but not showing in My Computer.

I had to replace the power supply in my computer and ever since I have had this problem with the dvd drives not showing. It seems very unlikely that they both broke at the same time that I changed my power supply.

Im probably gonna have to take it to a computer repair shop.

Good Luck

In saying "full system recovery" do you mean you took it back to factory condition or in other words a complete reinstall?

If so your pics music etc are history sorry to say.

I'm also confused about this statement, can you be more precise please.

i did make a set of recovery discs 6 in all but they do not seem to want to download,

Yes a complete re-install, but i was told that with my HP Pavillion if i made a set of 6 system recovery discs i would still have settings, music and photos from before, please explain ?

I put disc number into tray and i can view whats on disce but nothing happens, where as if i load 1st disc into tray and re-start my computer it asks me do i want to perfoem a full recovery or a part recovery ????????????????

Can we start by finding out where you were told that so we can see what it is that you created on those 6 discs? There must be more there than just an operating system and drivers.

i was told on one of the threads i have posted, do you think i have lost all my photos and music ?

also can`t get my hotmail to work as it was before, but at least i have my dvd trays working.

Ok alpha but you have had 57 posts on 8 threads that you started. Can you please direct me to the one you mean. Either give me the link or at least the thread title.

A quick review indicates that several of your past problems have marked similarities to this one.

No problem here either, alfa. We just want to make sure that everything is consistent and accurate. Often when there are multiple threads things can get confused. Our goals are the same as yours, we need to know about these discs if we are going to be able to help you use them.

What seems to have happened here Alfa is that you did a "back to factory" install and then decided to make some Recovery Disks.

Would this be the case?

If so what did you use to reinstall the system?

Let us approach one thing at a time.

No, No, i made recovery discs before i did factory re install, well before about a month or 2 before i started this thread about dvd devices no working.
