boom Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 i can`t seem to get my girlfriends pc to run stable. it used to restart constantly as if there was a power cut, i virus scanned but no errors.sometimes not able to complete the scan as the pc would randomly restart this could happen 20 times in the space of about ten minutes. we then bought a new HDD and a new version of windows xp pro,all was well with the installation, but recently it as started doing the same thing, only other software i have included is for her ipod.i have never encountered this problem before and its extreamly difficult to use for work due to constant reboot.windows gives no warning just reboots. any help would be great. thanks Quote
londonles Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I guess you may have either a faulty power supply or possible overheat on the cpu. firstly check that the cpu is not overheating as this will cause your pc to shut down. secondly ensure that the cpu cooling fan is rotating. Does the comuter give any warning beeps or just close down?. If all is ok then suspect a faulty power supply Quote Turn it on first it often helpsAll answers are given in good faith and carry no warranty or liabilities, please consider the implications of each action you choose as we can not be held responsible for any loss or damage how so ever caused
maynardvdm Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 if all els fails also check that u have updated anti virus protection as there is a worm (i think its a new one) that reboots the pc constantly. boom Posted May 4, 2007 Author Posted May 4, 2007 i believe its the power supply, its not a virus as we have full updates and a new hdd and win xp.i get no warning at all. its like the power been turned on and off at the mains constantly.sometimes its fine then turn on and off about 5/10 times of part way through doing something.
