What PSU is needed?

Hello,

 

I am not sure what PSU I need for my PC as I have built it, but I think the PSU is too low. I run Intel Q9550 2.83GHz processor, 2GB RAM and dual sparkle nVidia 512mb GPU (2x512). My current PSU is 450W at the moment and I am wondering what I would need to run the PC safely.

What are the GPU models - the Q9550 will use a good chunk on its own.

It really comes down to the GPU models post back and I will let you know

I don't have the model on hand right now, however, I have an extra question.

Would the Q9550 require watercooling as I haven't yet received the processor in the post so I cannot tell. I have a fan on the case extra as well as all the normal fans, but I have my doubts (and I don't want to cook my processor)

No - it wont need watercooling - just make sure that you dont use the standard intel cooler as they are rubbish - have a look around and see what is a good fan - I use arctic cooler freezer 7 ones - but you have to have good airflow in the case for it to work - If you have a case with just 1 or 2 fans then you are going to struggle to cool the chip - and a new case may be in order.

I have 2 fans on the case and 1 non-intel fan too for the processor, but I cannot remember what model it is, but I think it's a good one.

Right - if its a good GPU and you have 2 of them and a processor like that - you are looking at around 700 Watt minimum really
