How do you mean - need to keep reinstalling the router?

Routers don't normally need installing, just configuring for your ISP and wireless connections.

Is it a Netgear DG834 or something very close?

AOL connection with a DG834G.....

I'm guessing you connect with a cable from your laptop to router, run the setup and then unplug the cable and use wireless?

Do you do a reinstall because you lose the Internet access?

Do you leave your router switched on all the time - ie 24/7?

After the 8 days, does the wireless part give any errors, or is it just that you cannot get on the net?

Lots of questions - sorry, just need to understand what is happening

open an IE window and in the address bar type 192.168.1.1 and a password box will appear - these are normally all the same - you should have the name and the password printed on a sticker under the router - have you ever done any of this?

If you have not done this before then chances are that your router is blocking the router via a password or bu MAC address - but we can diagnose further when you let us know :)

Netgear Router Login

Just like to add a correction here - the Netgear login page is 192.168.0.1 as defined in their manual.

Have you ever been in the router setup - as posted above?

Is the router just a router - or a modem/router?

No never seen anything like that.

First of all the router was sent free with my aol package which also has an "easy install " disc with it. It runs fine installs everything fine and connects me to the internet i then run a wireless install which sets up the wireless network the laptop picks it up no problem everything is ok, the problem is after 8 days i need to redo it as i lose connection 3 time this has happend and exactly 8 days each time just seems strange, must be something timing out, surely can't be coincidance the 8 day thing ? or can it http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/images/icons/icon5.gif

No its not a coincidence - it may be that AOL refreshes your licence that often - get in toch with them and kick off!
