Hi - I have a Toshiba MK4026GAX hard drive from my old and suddenly broken Dell laptop. I would like to put the drive in an external drive case but it wont fit in the two I have bought so far - what am I doing wrong or am I buying the wrong case ? I have done this succesfully before with other Dell laptops

Thanks if you can help

Simon

Hi Simon,

What do you mean -it won't fit

Is it too big, too small, too long, the wrong connector?

The drive you refer to is a 2.5" drive with an IDE interface.

The caddies for these are normally quite small, and do not need mains power. The drive is powered through the USB interface.

Have a look here for a suitable caddy

Laptop HDD's are 2.5 inch - desktop PC's and most caddies are 3.5 inch - you need to pack the sides of the drive if the caddy is too big - I use foam pieces :)
