Hi

I am looking to upgrade my mobile phone here in the UK but will probably leave it until just after Christmas to see if there are any bargains to be had. My most likely choice will be the iphone, with o2 as the network operator.

The main reason for updating (apart from the fact that my phone looks like a brick) is the ability for push emails and automatic synchronisation of my emails, contacts and calendars between pc and mobile device.

If I do get the iphone I would have a choice of MobileMe from Apple or Microsoft Exchange. I would prefer the latter as I could keep my current email address.

I have emailed GoDaddy.com from whom I purchase the domain and email service. I current pay 99 cents per month for the email service, this would increase to $9.99 for an exchange account with mobile access. I am prepared to pay that but I often get emails from them offering me 20% off for the next few days so it would make sense to take advantage of that.

I have some concerns, namely what will happen to the emails, contacts and calendar currently stored on my non exchange outlook; what changes I need to make to my current settings and how smooth the changeover will be.

I have written to GoDaddy for some guidance, as you can see their response is less than helpful, particularly in regard to what will happen to my existing information.

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience of this and whether you could help?

It would not matter if I changed to exchange before I buy the mobile device but it would make sense to change when I have a discount (this happens pretty frequently).

Regards

Ian

Dear Ian Tubby,

Thank you for contacting Online Support.

I will answer each of your questions individually:

Question # 1 =================

You asked: I already have Microsoft outlook on my pc so I would not need a download. What would happen to the emails, contacts and calendar currently on my outlook in a non exchange account? Would they be added to the exchange account or lost?

Answer: If you already have Outlook you will not need to download the program. You will be able to sync all you currently information up to the new plan, however we do not have information on how that will need to be done.

Question # 2 =================

You asked: What alterations would I need to make to my current settings?

Answer: The only change that will need to be made is that you will need to update the MX records for your domain name so that it points to the exchange server records.

You asked: I currently back up my outlook, this will not be possible on exchange, do you back up?
