If I am honest - there are far better products available than the ones that Slysoft do.

I find that their software is 'clunky' and extremely resource hungry - even though it uses so much resources it is still far slower than software that uses less resources.

Perhaps you could share the names of equivalent software and the links to said software. I agree there is other software but of those I've tested, they are not better and I don't agree with your findings, so please share your recommendations, perhaps I've overlooked something better.

Thanks

I'm not qualified to give an opinion here as I've only used Nero and Roxio.

Should anyone wish to buy me any of these I would gladly check them out. :p

Well, the best ISO burning / imaging program I have seen is PowerISO. But it doesn't exactly back my data up.

Ron,

If you have ever read what Gamejackal actually does - it's insulting to a gamers intelligence - it's just a no-cd/dvd fix and virtual image mounting software, the latter is not needed.

I write my own no-cd/dvd fixes myself via the registry.

hmmm... perhaps you're missing the point. Those you mentioned are good pieces of software and I do own them as well. In fact I own 2 copies of Alcohol 120%.

Alcohol 120% though has very few updates and does not appear to have a thriving development department. It has fought with black listing as others have for a long time but often takes forever to get an update to get them off the list. Slysoft often codes around such black listing within a couple days at most and in some cases has done so within hours. Reported issues are fixed rapidly in most cases. I own DAEMON Tools Pro as it was the only tool that could do some of the things to bypass restrictions at the time, but it also relies on 3rd party for SPTD, Slysoft writes their own so they can modify at any time without having to rely on a 3rd party. Not knocking any of the tools as they're good, but I would have to say that Slysoft is by far the most responsive and active developer in this area. Nero is also very active but stays out of many of the areas that Slysoft deals with.

There is no doubt that you can piece together "other" software on the Net to do these things BUT for many average users they don't want to spend the time to read and test and configure these other applications. I'm not saying Slysoft is the only answer out there, just saying it's a very simple solution and they do update often. As for GameJackal well it's a bit more than simple registry edits and again part of the selling point for all these applications is EASE OF USE, not how else can I do it and where can I configure tweaks. Contrary to what you may think I do understand what's going on under the covers so to speak and it's not just registry tweaks (though this site does not want us going into such details here) and I wonder how long they'll actually even allow this post to live.

Install a clean Windows XP with NO software beyond what the OS has, then install a game with SecureROM and you show me how you can bypass it with registry tweaks alone and I'll apologize to you and admit you were correct here on the board.

Nero is a great product as well (but a bit too bloated these days, but it does many things that people want to do, and in a single package).

As for DVD Decrypter - well it does not do Blu-ray video decryption. There are other products that attempt to do it but most sites still recommend Slysoft for doing it. I don't do it myself so have not researched products beyond Slysoft all that much.

As for resources, well I'm probably not going to spend the time to do all the results but suffice to say that all of them consume resources but on a modern system all of them run perfectly fine and if you're having trouble running any of them then you probably need an upgraded system.

I'm not a salesman for Slysoft - just reported there was a change coming for a lifetime policy they've had in the past. I do think it offers some nice features for the average user that makes it very easy to do by a couple simple mouse clicks.

I do agree with you though that for those that don't want to spend money and is not afraid to do some research and reading, testing... There is software and information out there to do all of this without spending a dime. I guess I'm getting old and lazy though and don't care to spend that time and energy anymore, been there done that.

Hi Dalo,

Can you please explain the steps to create an ISO image from files and folders on your drive with ISO Buster

I own the product and it is the best tool on Web for doing RECOVERY but I've not seen it used for creating ISO images like that. You can extract certain data to an ISO image but not exactly create and master like some of the other programs.

If you know otherwise please share those details. I really like ISO Buster and if it can do that I'd rather use it than some of the other programs.

Ron,

You can do this with a no-cd/dvd fix - and I have known developers of games to recommend this as a course of action too (even though they shouldn't) :D

I will have a look at ISO buster later as I know it can do what you have asked I just can't remember from memory :)

As for products needing updates - that was not the original point :D

From what I remember of Daemon tools it was just a virtual mounting software and I moved away from that a long time ago as listed above because no-cd/dvd registry fixes can do the exact same.

I do understand what you are saying BUT there are always better tools for doing a specific job - its just peoples preference in terms of what they actually decide to use :)

I WILL get back to you on the ISO buster

Nero is just too bloated for me now.

Ashampoo reminds me of how Nero used to be in the past and a free version (6.75) can be downloaded from here:

Ashampoo Burning Studio Free - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com

As for the good old DVD dycrpt, which was withdrawn because of major company threats on the developer I believe. This is now superseded by ImageBurn which has been developed by the DVD Dycrpt guy:

The Official ImgBurn Website

Happy burning and we will not go into WinAvi Converter.;)

THEY MADE ME DO IT.

Hi everyone. A good debate all around. However I think we should close this thread at this time. The points have been made and the thread has served it's purpose to inform. We all know that we wouldn't want the thread to go into areas that are contrary to our policies.

Thanks for your understanding.
