Screen goes black, even after starting in safe mode

Can anyone help me diagnose and fix my laptop problem? My PC was working just fine until all of a sudden the screen went black. After rebooting in normal mode, the same thing happened, then again after rebooting in safe mode. I can't seem to get to a diagnostics point or even system restore before my screen goes black again.

Have you dropped the laptop?

have you pulled or tilted the screen too far?

Sounds to me like the ribbon that connects the monitor to the laptop has come loose - or maybe broken - or the screen has just died - its hard to diagnose - so plug another external monitor in and see if that works
