I usually use the F8 key myself.

By tapping it repeatedly from POST, - almost but not quite - to the end of

POST.

You may continually press F8 during boot, or just hold in the CTRL key

during boot to get the Startup Menu. But, REALLY, it is best to...

(a) "START button, Run, MSConfig, Advanced button".

(b) Check... "Enable Startup Menu".

Doing it that way puts up the menu at boot with a 30 second timer for it

to default to a boot to Windows. Hit the ENTER key for it to resume the

boot immediately. Hit any other key for it to wait forever for a choice.

It's possible to adjust the delay by editing MSDOS.sys.

If I remember correctly, TweakUI also has an option to set the length of time

it waits before loading Windows.

It may be so. It's an important file. To do it manually, one may open it

in Notepad, & carefully change the following line to the desired

value...

BootMenuDelay=10

...., which thanatoid has said only a slowpoke would want to be higher

than 5! Here is more...

Here is a way to edit MSDOS.sys. This is an important file.

(1) You won't even see it, unless...

"START button, Settings, Folder Options, View tab"

...is bolted "Show all files"; uncheck "Hide file extensions..."

too.

(2) Find "C:\MSDOS.sys" and back it up.

Call the backup MSDOS.bck, in C:\.

(3) Then, R-Clk "C:\MSDOS.sys", Properties, and uncheck Read-Only.

(4) Open it in Notepad, &

(a) Set that "BootMenuDelay=" to the desired value

(b) Save it & Exit Notepad

(5) Then, R-Clk MSDOS.sys again, and make it Read-Only. Reboot.

(6) Can't reboot? Then, in DOS, copy the backup over the one you've

mussed...

(a) ATTRIB -R -S -H C:\MSDOS.sys

(b) COPY C:\MSDOS.bck C:\MSDOS.sys

© ATTRIB +R +S +H C:\MSDOS.sys

NOTE: If you have a "C:\Winboot.ini", it will override MSDOS.sys,

though. So, check for that too. It has the same format/instruction set

as the other.
