sycho1981 Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 Hi, So recently i was given a laptop by my dad, an old piece of rubbish he used for spreadsheets etc. Iwanted to update the OS from win2000 to XP but when I tried I was given a message saying that there was no hard drive on my laptop, I've asked my dad but he's rubbish with this sort of thing so my questions are, 1. How can windows be on this laptop if it doesnt have a hdd? and 2. How do I install my Os on it? thanks Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 Without a hard drive you would not get anything but a bios screen telling you that the primary disk cannot be found as you have stated. Someone's pulled the hard drive or the hard drive has died. Quote
sycho1981 Posted January 4, 2009 Author Posted January 4, 2009 I see, if i posted a pic could you point out what i should be lookin for? Quote
Jack Hackett Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Aside from the HDD issue, even if one was present as it is an older laptop I wouldnt consider running XP on it as it probably isnt up to the job. What are the specs for this laptop, CPU, RAM etc - telling us the make and model would help for a start HDD Issue If you enter the BIOS what is shown for any installed drives? Does the BIOS detect a HDD? Quote Ne auderis delere orbem rigidum meum!
