1. Yes, when I did the malware program I did have McAfee running. Ran Malwarebyte this a.m. with McAfee enabled. Result: no infections found. I just disabled McAfee and used the malware program again. Result: no infections found.

Superspyware found 15 infections this a.m.

2. I uninstalled the CD burning program.

3. Went to Add or Remove Programs and removed remaining pieces of a photo program I don't like. I don't know what many of those things there do, so was leary of removing much.

4. I got the screenshot you wanted. Now, how do I send it?

3. Once in paint open edit on top and then paste.

The screen shot should appear.

Save the file to your desktop and give it a name. In the file type box choose jpeg.

Hope this works this time. I find that a couple of double clicks on this thing bring it into focus. Finally did it. How cool is that? :)

Thank you struggling.

For your information you do not have 2 separate hard drives you have only 1 divided into 3 partitions. That knowledge, however will not solve your problem.

Hopefully we have a simple solution.

Go into Control Panel and then go to User Accounts.

Click on set up a new account and follow the basic directions. Please do not name the new account either user or owner. Your own name seems appropiate.

When it prompts make sure you set it up as an administrator.

Then I want you to log off where you are and go into the new account. Try saving anything to my documents and make sure it works.

Hopefully we can avoid anything drastic.

Come back when you are done and we will finish this up :D (maybe)

After all your hard work, you're not going to want to hear this.

Control Panel > User Accounts > Set Up New Account (with my name) >Made sure set up as administrator > Logged off > Went into New Account > Saved a Word document.

Result: My Documents has in it:

1. My Music (no music, just the samples)

2. My Pictures (no pictures, just the samples)

3. The Word document I created and saved to My Documents

The phrase "My Documents" is not listed.

That's it.

The Good news:

Logged into "owner" and everything is there that's supposed to be.

I'm not terribly concerned because I still have the work-around option of manually moving new stuff into My Documents after I save it.

It's just that this tail-ender must be something of a bummer for you. I really do appreciate your herculean efforts.

Struggling,

I think you are missing the point. You were not supposed to find your old documents there you have to put them there. The fact that you have a My Documents Folder and that you were able to save a new document into it means that this fix has worked. :)

What you need to do is copy all of your old documents into the new account My Documents Folder and once you are sure everything is stable remove both the user and owner accounts.

HINT: When you try to move your old my music or my pictures files you will be told that a "file by that name already exist do you want to overwrite "or something to that effect. You would have to say yes. In order to avoid this message simply delete "my Music" and "my Pictures" from the new my documents folder and the old ones will transfer seamlessly.

Yes, I did miss the point. I guess since I saw so many familiar things(such as anti-virus, etc. ) I thought contents of My Documents would show up too. Like I said, " I have some computer experience. Guess I was thinking the purpose for the backup was in case something went wrong in the process of a transfer between accounts. Not so.

I have everything on a FreeAgent-Go external drive. Searched for a way to put the files in the new account, but couldn't figure it out. I only know how to restore backup in Quicken. Sorry, but guess I'll need help with that process.

OK really easy to do. Many very short steps

In new account.

1. Open My documents to full size.

2. Since I assume you already have my music and my pics saved. Delete the new ones that are in My documents.

3. Minimize My Documents

4. Put your memory stick into the usb port

5. Go to My computer and open it.

6. Open the memory stick.

7. If the documents are in a My documents folder on the stick open the folder.

8. Maximize the My Documents again in the new file

9. have the memory stick folder smaller then the My documents folder.

10 click on edit on top and select all.

12 drag one file into the new my documents file and if select all has worked all the files will follow.

Let me know how you make out.

All done. And the new word document did go into My Documents.

You're nothing short of a genious, beeceebee.

This is one of the longest threads I've ever seen. But it does cover a good variety of newbie challenges, and hopefully will be of benefit to others. :)

I may need help down the road removing the other accounts. (Although I'll probably figure it out because I'm so smart now! ) But first I'll have to get the hang of this new IE7.

I'll be printing out this entire thread for future reference. But first -- after a brain rest -- I need to hop over to the forum on printers. I need pages from my new printer that I can read without a magnifying glass. And magnifying glass is no exaggeration.

Thanks again for all your help.

Well in truth struggling, it really is a pleasure to see this one solved.

While I really appreciate the compliment and take it to heart, there are people on Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help who could put all that I know and hide it in a back pocket somewhere.

I have learned what I do know from them which, I hope, simply proves that Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help is the place to be.
