new vista laptop and itunes

I've just bought an Acer 5920G laptop. When I download itunes 8, it won't run on the laptop and I get a message saying "Windows Installer. This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the product exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package." What am I doing wrong? Laptop is running Vista home premium.

The message is usually caused during an execution of a corrupted installation file. Please redownload the iTunes setup completely and try installing it again.
