Java ??

Hi all

Can you tell me what the hell is java, I have it but do I need it, can I get rid of it. is it a microsoft or a windows thing I have no idea where it came from so I suspect it must be some sort of automatic update thing

Java is simply a language developed by Sun Microsystems.

 

There are a great many sites on the internet that make use of java for their applets etc and will not function on your PC if you are not able to read and run scripts using java. You can get rid of it but you will only be prompted to download it again the next time you try to use one of these sites.

 

Many interactive sites use it, newspaper crosswords is an example that comes to mind.

 

It is perfectly safe and presents no drain on your resources. There is no logical reason to remove it.

Also monitor all Java updates here and download the latest one.
