I'm using a external USB 500GB. And I've just noticed that despite the fact I've continued to put data onto it. I've still got 132GB of free space left.

Is there anyway of correcting this? Or is something BAD about to happen?

Thanks

Sorry I probably didnt make myself very clear in the original post.

My HD free space reads 132GB. I add 10GB of music say. It still reads 132GB of free space. I keep adding more data, and it still hasnt changed from 132GB free space.

Well it does make a bit more sense put that way. I assume you are just checking properties for the disc in My Computer. What happens to the reading if you stop the drive, remove it and then reinsert it into the computer? How about on a reboot?

That does seem a bit odd, 10GB should register. Let it sit and one of the guys who really know hardware will pick up on it I'm sure. Check back in the morning and there is a good chance you will find an answer.

How about some info on the machine you're conecting to, specifically the OS and size the largest internal drive in the machine. Almost looks like a problem with the PC not recognizing that 500 GB drive capacity properly. What is reported for the total size of the external?

Are you sure the data is actually being copied to the drive - not just shortcut icons?

It would be wise to run a check on your external drive. Go to My Computer, find you external drive, right click over it's icon, then down to Properties.

Select the 2nd tab, Tools, and Check Now, tick box boxes and click Start.

Before you do it, make sure you don't have any Explorer windows open.
