Guest Igor Pinchevskiy Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Hello, I would like to get some recommedations on the Antivirus software that you guys use. We currently use Symantec Corp V10 (i believe) and that thing slows everything down accross our LAN and WANs. Can you recommend anything that will not slow things down as much? Thank you in advance, Igor Pinchevskiy

There is no effective AntiVirus on earth that's not also a CPU-Hog. Perhaps because that's not possible? Inspecting resources always takes further resources for the inspection itself.

You can also disable the Network Scanning function if you have it installed on all your computers/servers, it will save you performance cost. In all cases, the only time I've seen SAV 7+ cause a performance issue was when there was a compromised system beating on the machine that was slow or when the machine was just way underpowered to start with (before SAV was installed). -- Leythos - Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum. - Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented worker" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist" spam999free@rrohio.com (remove 999 for proper email address)

The only time I noticed a big slowdown was with Network Scanning enabled at a client using a client/server application heavily. I disable Network Scanning on all my installs.
Guest Igor Pinchevskiy Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Re: Antivirus Recommendations Thank you guys, I will try disabling network scanning to see if it would make a difference.
