It shows that you have the icons set in properties for those folders where there are graphic files in the folder. This is not a glitch and can be changed back by right clicking on the folder and going to customize.

Some folders show as thumbnails by default - eg My Music, some don't eg an external hard drive.

 

Changing them is quick and easy, here's an example of a thumbnail view

 

[ATTACH]278[/ATTACH]

 

and changing it to an icon view works like this

 

[ATTACH]279[/ATTACH]

its not the pictures that are the problem, when i set them back to thumbnails they look as they should but its the names of the folders dissappearing thats baffling me

You should be able to just click on "View" then "choose Details" and then tick the name and whatever details you wish to see, but I do agree that is weird,

 

Maybe if you go to View then Refresh once it goes like that and see if it changes back?

Hello Sycho. First switch to the Icons view. Next, hold down the Shift key and switch to Thumbnails view again. This toggles the File / Folder names on and off.
