problem with my CDROM drive

OK, do the following.

 

1. Go to Device Manager and expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers category.

2. Right-click on each of the listed devices and select the Properties option.

3. Switch to the Advanced Settings tab (if present) and see which one says ATAPI CD-ROM or something similar.

4. Do this for all other present IDE controllers and uninstall the ones which are related to your CD / DVD drive.

5. Reboot the computer.

 

Does your CD / DVD drive work now?

Hi, I am having the same problem with my CDROM drive. I have an Acer Aspire 5715Z and my drive was working fine tonight, I have installed some software then all of a sudden the drive has stoped working. The only difference is, is that I am getting Error Code 39?? I have tried running the ZIP file and that did not work, I have just done the Advance Settings thing that you recommed and that did not work either?

 

Is there anything else that you could suggest?

Hi jember;

What software did you install? Did you uninstall it? Did the problem surface after the install or the uninstall?

 

If you haven't already I suggest to uninstall this software before running the fix.

 

Remove the device from device manager.

 

Reboot.

 

Also since this is a recent event consider a system restore.

Fix CD Drive

 

Hello Jember. If Randy's solution doesn't work do the following.

 

Please download the attached archive and extract it. If you are unsure on how to open the archive, use the instructions from here and continue. After you have extracted the archive, you should obtain a file labeled Fix CD Drive.reg. Double-click on the file and you will be asked whether you want to import the information into the registry or not. Answer Yes to the prompt and sometime later another dialog box will pop up informing you that the operation was successful. After you have done the above, reboot your computer. You should now be able to access and use your CD drive.

 

Note: Please backup your registry before you apply any of the above changes so that we can revert back your system to working condition if something goes awry.

 

Note: Using the above registry fix might cause some programs to dysfunction or work incorrectly. In that case, please reinstall the affected programs to resolve their respective errors.

 

You might say that you have already tried the fix but I recommend you to rerun the fix since I have now modified the code. Please try the fix again and see if it helps or not.
