My laptop can't get an internet connection because it has issues. I have been advised to install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

I download the software on my desktop which can log onto the internet. The installed updates are dated 9 months ago back I can easily click on "Check for Updates" and everything is up to date from there.

When I install the program onto my laptop (with no live internet connection) I can easily set up the program, but am stuck with the out of date definitions.

Is there a way I can copy the latest definitions from my desktop over to the laptop?

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried going into Safe Mode on boot up by tapping F8 and choosing Safe Mode with Networking.

You can't simply copy windows updates from one machine to another.

Can you explain what you mean by "It has issues" please, is the ethernet connection broken, if it's wireless have you tried hard wiring it to the router or modem?

The laptop restarts in Safe Mode each time I turn it on. It boots up normally but only lasts a minute before it blue screens me and then I need to start in safe mode.

People have said it could be the motherboard, others say it could be a virus from messenger. All different opinions.

I will start it up and post the errors I get shortly.

Thanks

It looks like the exe file for the latest data base can be downloaded from their site.

Thanks Randy. I'll give that a go.

In the meantime...

the blue screen tells me:

A problem has been detectedand windows has been shut down....etc

Technical Info

STOP: OxOOOOOO8E (0xC0000005, 0x8F5ACB3A, 0xA00F15F4, 0x00000000)

Does this mean anything..obviously it does, just not to me.

Thanks again.

Thanks again Randy, that link worked for me so I now have the latest updates on my laptop.

Just running it now to see if it finds anything.

Thanks.

Just a quick note. The code that you are getting does not seem to show up on the Microsoft Database. Was that a copy and paste or is it possible you may have it wrong?

Hello Barry. The actual error code is 0x00000008E; you just need to replace the O's with 0's. Here are two Microsoft Knowledge Base articles that might help you with your problem, Neil.

You receive a random "0x0000008E" error message on a blue screen in Windows XP

General troubleshooting for an error message that you may receive randomly in Windows XP: "Stop 0x0000008E"

Hope that helps. :)

Would I be right in saying that the links are for XP but they should still be usable for Vista? I may be jumping the gun because I haven't opened them up yet....will now though

Thanks

Ah sorry, my bad. Please read the second link and try the troubleshooting instructions suggested. In Vista, the settings might be different, so you might need to use a different tact to access them but I think you can find your way around them.

If you can't, then please post back and I will try to post the appropriate instructions.

Hope that helps. Good Luck. :)
