Hello Everyone!! (It's my 1st post)

I upgraded my computer 1 year ago,:D and I am now thinking in a possible upgrade again. THE BIG PROBLEM is that I don't know what to buy AND I can only spend £150-300.

My pc:

- (Motherboard) - Asus Maximus Extreme :)

- (CPU) - Intel Quad Core Q6600 :)

- (Graphic Card) - ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT

- (Memory) - DDR3 2Gb OCZ Gold Edition and 512mb Generic 1066Mhz

- Air Cooled

- (Case) Thermaltake Xaser III

I was thinking of either buying a new GPU ( but I'm not sure if my motherboard accepts Nvidia because it says on the website ATI CrossFire), my other option was to buy more memory ( but for that I would need to get rid of the existing ones as the newer models are 1800Mhz and 1600Mhz, wouldnt I?) or I could buy a liquid cooling system.

Sorry for the long post, but I want to make sure I spend my money wisely:).

Thanks for reading.

Oki Wolfeymole I will be waiting patiently. I've red his comments on other threads and he seems to know what he is talking about.

Thanks for your reply

I think I might go for a new GPU, an ATI one (don't know which one yet).

Any suggestions?

Hello Diurno,

Yes your moptherboard WILL supporta n Nvidia GPU, when it states "crossfire", it just means that it will support two or more ATI GPU's running in sync with ATI's Crossfire technology.

So yes, it will support Nvidia but not if you intend to use 2 or more in "SLI"

I'll leave the rest for Dalo to sort you out with if he gets on before I can again :), just thought I'd let you know that.

Aslo as for CPU, the Q6600 is a very good CPU and is very reliable even now, so unless you majorly want to or need to change it, the Q6600 will take any new products on the market now.

I'm happy with my CPU and with my motherboard. I'm just not sure about my memory and GPU.

Do you think I should buy a new GPU? If so which one? (Budget £150-£300)

Your memory is fine, and as for your GPU, I would recommend an ATI HD 4850x2 or a HD4870 if you want serious graphics power in your machine. The single 4850 can cope well and easily with all of todays latest games and the ones coming out in the future.

You can get the 4850 for around £108 cheapest from scan.co.uk or ebuyer.

But as your budget streches as far as £300, you can easily afford the 4870 and even the 4870x2 if you really thought you'd need the ultimate graphics card for about £400.

Thanks for the advice, I will probably buy this one, but this one looks so good. I will probably buy the XFX, only because it is the XXX edition (:D).
