Hello, I have got the same problem as member jesushr3, my CD/DVD does not work. I have tried all the solutions you have suggested in this thread but none of them are working for me.

When I tried the last solution to uninstall the IDE/ATA-ATAPI with something with the CD/DVD, the computer started to install and everything looked good but no. I still got the problem.

Anything else I can do? When I try to update the drivers the computer says that I have the latest drivers.

Thank you in advance!

I have an Acer 4620z and my HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA, just stopped working,

It would be very helpful if in the future we are a little more precise in defining problems.

A dvd/cd drive is both electronic and mechanical. It may well be that the reason the drives above stopped functioning is due to some driver issue etc.

It is also just as possible that they are broken. Do they light up when you boot? Do they spin and stop or not spin at all? What actually happens when you put a disc in?

Hello Thomas. There are a few things you can try. Please use the instructions from my last post to uninstall your IDE drives. Next, download the attached archive and extract it. If you are unsure on how to open the archive, use the instructions from here and continue. After you have extracted the archive, you should obtain a file labeled Fix CD Drive.reg. Double-click on the file and you will be asked whether you want to import the information into the registry or not. Answer Yes to the prompt and sometime later another dialog box will pop up informing you that the operation was successful. After you have done the above, reboot your computer. You should now be able to access and use your CD drive.

Note: Please backup your registry before you apply any of the above changes so that we can revert back your system to working condition if something goes awry.

Note: Using the above registry fix might cause some programs to dysfunction or work incorrectly. In that case, please reinstall the affected programs to resolve their respective errors.

You might say that you have already tried the fix but I recommend you to rerun the fix since I have now modified the code. Please try the fix again and see if it helps or not.

If the problem persists, then the CD drive is probably useless and therefore it might be wiser to buy a new one.

Hope that helps. :)

Hello, my explanation was a little bit too bad. I´m sorry about that.

Yesterday I noticed suddenly that I hadn´t got any cd/dvd player at all. In the device manager there is a mark on the dvd/cd device. Besides on that there is also a mark on the network card and my newest problem for today is that I haven´t got any sound in my laptop anymore.

The following devices has a mark:

DVD-/CD Rom devices

DVD (HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA Device)

CD (UHQ EJOXYFCHY SCSI CDrom Device)

Network Cards:

Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface

Could it be a virus?

I have though Norton 360 installed.

It may well be and Norton is not exactly a favourite around here.

Please go through the following procedure and see what turns up.

Get back to us with the result.

Your computer could be infected with Malware.

  • Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent.
It is a combination of the words malicious and software.
The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code.

  • Required Cleanup Steps
    1. Disable the Spybot Search & Destroy TEA TIMER if you use it and if it is enabled
    2. Run a Temporary file and cache cleaner (ATF)
    3. Run 2 Anti-Malware scanners (Listed Below)
    4. Run an Online Anti-Virus / Anti-Malware Scanner (Listed Below)
    5. Clear out old System Restore points
    6. If continued Malware type activity is present you may be asked to post a TrendMicro™ HijackThis™ Log file, do not do so unless requested.

The reason to run multiple scanners is to ensure that no single scanner is missing something.

The time it takes will vary depending on your system and your internet connection speed.

Typically the SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes scanners will take between 10 to 90 minutes.

The ESET online scan should take between 1 to 3 hours.

In most cases, these scans will suffice to clean and disinfect your computer.

Heavily infected systems or slower PCs can take much longer to scan and clean.

For best results print the following instructions and bookmark this Web page

From your browser select File - Print and in the printer dialog box under "Print range"

click the
Selection
choice to print out these instructions for removal of malware.

    • You
      must
use Internet Explorer for this online scan. FireFox, Opera, etc will not work for this scan.

    • If your computer is running Window's Vista, then you
      must first
start Internet Explorer as an Administrator. To do so, right-click on the
      Internet Explorer
icon in the Start Menu and select "
      Run as administrator
" from the popup context menu.

    • Accept the terms and click "Start".

    • Once the scanner is ready, check "Remove found threats" AND "Scan unwanted applications".

    • Click "Start" to begin the scan.

    • When completed restart your computer

Hello and a Happy New Year 2009!

I was able to do the scans today due to lack of time, I took me about two hours to do them all.

But the problem is still there , I can´t see my dvd station when I go to MyComputer.

Could it be that simple that my dvd station is broken? Or could it be anything else?

Thanks for your help!

Fix CD Drive.vbs

OK Thomas, its time we revert back to our original troubleshooting path. Please download the attached archive and extract it. If you are unsure on how to open the archive, use the instructions from here and continue. After you have extracted the archive, you should obtain a file labeled Fix CD Drive.vbs. Double-click on the file and sometime later, a dialog box, similar to the one attached, will pop up informing you that the operation was successful.

If the problem persists, then the CD drive is probably useless and therefore it might be more prudent to buy a new one.

Hope that helps. :)

The sound is working great. I had twice a X-mark on my sound icon down in the right corner but it disappeared when I reboot my computer.

Hello Goku!

I tried your version also with the registry but that didn´t work either.

In my device manager of DVD- CD- roms, I had two lines before with a ! mark. One was for the DVD and the other for the CD.

Now I have one line with the DVD and four with the CD. All of them are marked with a ! mark.

Thanks though to everyone that tried to help me out. I think the easiest way now for me is to buy a new external drive, they are not so expensive nowdays.

What I find puzzling is that obscure combination of an old IDE connector alongside SCSI connectors.

Well it appears that your DVDRAM drive is an IDE device and the CDROM is a SCSI (Small Computer System Interface) device and it's most peculiar to see them on the same board.
