Glad you solved your problem but do you mind telling me how did you solve it? I'm curious.

:o Hi Wrightgk,

I can understand your annoyance and it is not without good cause. Sometimes even in the best of worlds things can go wrong. I would like to think that yours is the exception that proves the rule. Fortunately we get very little of this.

You posted a hardware question and, while I know it was seen, there was no hardware expert on line as it was deep into the holiday period. After that it seem to have been lost in the shuffle.

Your post should, at very least, have been acknowledged which would have called new attention to it. The fact that it was not is our fault and we deeply apologise.

Hi, I fixed my problem by going into the bios and adjusting the clock multipliers on the cpu. (Bus Speed 333 multiplier *9)

I downloaded CPUID and used this to determine my core speed before and after the change.

I did not have to adjust the CPU clock multipliers for my previous chip (P4 3gig socket 775) and this is why I was confused when my new cpu was reporting the wrong core speed.

So I suppose I was a bit daft not checking this first. Thanks for your replies to my query,

Thank you also for your explanation as to why my post was unanswered for so long, I will continue to use this site as and when the need arises and will also monitor the posts and offer any help I can.

Regards, Graham

You shouldn't need to do this manually - checking that you have the latest BIOS normally resolves under performing chip issues.

I did update the bios, which DID NOT resolve my problem.

This is why I posted the message originally, Core speed wrong.

I like YOU thought that the bios should automatically set the multipliers, but it DIDN'T.

Just thought that I would clarify this point.

What process did you use to update the BIOS?

I used a usb flash stick to update the bios, I booted from the flash stick and ran the update tool ezflash from ASUS.

Ok - on the ASUS Mobo disk, you can run the update in a windows environment -

you dload the file off the ASUS site and run it though that.

Its far easier, than messing around with floppys etc.

I suspect that it didnt do the whole update, if I am honest
