Hi Maggie,

What makes you think you deleted your driver? In addition to the above information it would be helpful if we had some idea of what occurred and what you are seeing.

If you know how, please take a look in your device manager and see if there are any yellow warnings showing there.

Hi

Yes there is a yellow triangle by the c-media AC97 Audio Device.

I was trying to fix my modem yesterday and think I deleated the audio drivers as they were both Realtek

When I go into Devices and onto drivers details there are some files there.

I have tried looking on the driver detective site but it wants to update other drivers including my modem (and after the trouble I had with that yesterday)

I am reluctant to do.

does anyone have a solution for me please

Maggie before you do anything else please go go into your control panel and click on "sounds and audio devices." Select the audios tab and make certain that the realtek device is listed as the default. If it is not and does not appear on a drop down menu please tell us what it does say.

While still in device manager, a right click on the AC97 should come up with "Update driver", provided you are connected to the web or online, windows will search for and install the missing driver, without looking for other drivers.

Let us know if that helps.

I have installed Windows, now how do I install the curtains? 😄

On sound and devices the realtek has gone and on the drop down its none or windows default.

I have tried to update drivers but it says that windows could not find a better match.

Ok Maggie there are a few things to try before we get into locating new drivers. If these possible fixes fail please come back to us with the make and model number of your computer. If you know how to identify your motherboard that would be helpful but don't worry about that now.

1. Go back to your device manager and delete the realtek AUDIO device completely. After you have done that shut down and reboot the computer. Hopefully it will recognise the sound device and install it with drivers.

2. If that does not work you should try a system restore to a point prior to when you may have deleted the drivers. If you do not know how to do a sytem restore we will help you through it when the time comes. This is an unlikely fix but it is worth trying.

Did you try a system restore Maggie? Keep in mind that if it works you may also restore whatever problem you had with the modem. You have not told us what that was.

That is why I am not keen on a system restore, it took a long time to fix the modem it had to be restored to original settings and it took an age to connect it to the computer as it would not recognise the modem.

not sure what happened but I was trying to reset the security settings as my daughters I pod Touch woild not connect because it was WEP incoded (and it appears that the ipod touch does not like WEP) , then it all went haywire.

That is how I disconected the sound drivers instead of the modem drivers.

Anyhow all is working fine on that side now so you can see my reluctence.

To complete the second step recommended by beeceebee. You have to do the following steps:

Start ---> All Programs ---> Accessories ---> System Tools ---> System Restore ---> (Make sure the box: 'Restore my computer to an earlier time' is selected) then click 'Next ---> A calendar should appear, please select a point prior to when you have deleted the drivers ---> Click 'Next' --> A confirmation window should now appear, click 'OK'.

This will now restart your computer and hopefully solve your problem.

Let us know if this worked

Those instructions are correct but I want to try to find a safe way to try it without recreating your other problems

If I restore my computer to before I had the problems - say Christmas day would this affect my modem configuration? or would it reset everything?

As at Christmas day there was no problems the only difference was the modem was set to WEP and not WPA

If I reset do you think that the modem will reset too?

Hi Maggie,

I was trying to reset the security settings

Before you read on what do you mean by security settings? Did you change any firewall setting for example. If so what firewall do you use?

Since you apparently have solved your modem issues you should be able to record the current setting so that you will not have to keep trying different fixes. If a system restore does not reset it as it is you should be able to do it manually again (but knowing what they should be) and then set a new restore point.

Saying that was there a point that the modem was working properly? If so try a restore to that point.

Please feel free to comment before you try this as I may well be missing something that you may not have told us.

What I was trying to do was to set the wireless security from a WEP code to a WPA code as the I pod touch does not like WEP setting.

Which I have now done

Based on that I do believe that a system restore is the best route to go. The Realtek sound card that you have is a part of your motherboard. In order to be very sure you are getting the right drivers we really should have all the information that we can get about your PC and the motherboard.

On the other hand if it is just the wep to wpa swap that could be effected you already know how to do that and can record your current settings. A system restore should not alter any changes you may have made to your router in order for it to accept your wpa key. You may, however, simply turn if off during the reatore if it makes you feel more secure about the process.

If you feel compelled to go the driver route first please supply what information you can and we will help you find the,.

Sorry you may have to copy and paste into your browser address bar because the site does not seem to allow a link.

Keep in mind that yours is an onboard card (the second choice as I recall)

Before you try that you should check for a drivers folder here

c:\applications\drivers folder and see if the drivers are already there.
