chris lovett Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Hi All, [Win XP Home edition, 2gb Ram, 1.2gb dualcore (i think)] My computer is fitted with a Realtek Sound card. I at first thought it was a real beast had 6 slots in the back and 2 in the front next to the USB which was cool and when i plugged anything in it new exactly what slot and guessed what it was. Was running fine. Now after a long time without any use. (god knows why i disconnected speakers) sounds appears to come out muffled and wrong. tried different speakers headphones and all slots and with no improvement. Searched for latest drivers and all up to date. Is my sound card broke or am i missing something? Sorry for lack of information on my computer at work will update later if needed. Tootech Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 When you plug in your speakers or headphones, does the Realtek autosense detect what you have plugged in? Realtek audio usually have a Control Panel icon - have you had a look at the settings in there? Also, again in the Control Panel, Sounds And Audio Devices, over to Audio, is your Default Playback Device the Realtek Audio? Quote
chris lovett Posted December 30, 2008 Author Posted December 30, 2008 Thanks Tootech When you plug in your speakers or headphones, does the Realtek autosense detect what you have plugged in? Yes It Does. Realtek audio usually have a Control Panel icon - have you had a look at the settings in there? When i last reviewed these setting all seemed to be in order Also, again in the Control Panel, Sounds And Audio Devices, over to Audio, is your Default Playback Device the Realtek Audio? yes This is what's Bugging me the Most, Sound is coming out But it's just not right if someone speaks in a film there voice doesn't sound right or music sounds different. If there was no sound i would by a new soundcard straight away but as sound is present i'm confused Quote If Computers always worked i would be out of a job. This is why i love to hate computers. :)
Plastic Nev Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Hi, you say you tried all slots, do you mean you removed the sound card and then plugged it into another slot? Try removing it again, and using a pencil/biro type eraser use the slightly abrasive bit of the eraser to clean the contacts on the card, wipe them off and reseat it in the slot. See if that improves things. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here If Free PC Help has helped you then please consider a donation. Dalo Harkin Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Sound is coming out But it's just not right if someone speaks in a film there voice doesn't sound right or music sounds different. Sounds to me like the App you are using to run the video is the problem, or you have the quality (Hz) set higher than the speakers can handle is it ok with windows sounds? The only connectors that you need to use are normally BLACK (rear audio) GREEN (front audio) and normally RED or ORANGE for (SUB) Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.

Tootech Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Chris, Do you have any extra codec packs installed - Divx is a popular one. Is it an add in PCI card or is it onboard? Either way can you post the make/model number please. If your PC updates are at Service Pack 2, I'd be tempted to uninstall all the sound drivers, any codec packs and add ons, reboot and reinstall the up to date sound drivers. If you are at Service Pack 3, DO NOT uninstall the sound - there's a problem with reinstalling Realtek HD Audio - thanks Microsoft!! Quote
