Recovery Disks

I keep seeing references to "Recovery Disks', indicating that they are important to have. But I can't seem to find any details.

1. What is their specific purpose?

2. How important are they?

3. How do I make them?

A sure sign of wisdom is being able to say "I don't Know".

1. A recovery disc is a general term for media containing a backup of the original factory condition or favored condition of a computer as configured by an original equipment manufacter or an end-user.

2. They are very important. Example, lets a virus starts deleting important files in your computer and you don't have the 'Windows CD/DVD' to restore your computer settings to factory settings, in this situation you can use the 'Recovery Disk' as a bonus not only you get your original settings you also get the files you had in your 'My documents' folder.

Hope I make sense

Wow, Wolfeymole, you're fast -- you answered my question here before I asked it!!! Funny how that turned out.

Anyway, thanks to you and Diurno. Excelllent answers. I've saved the answers and will get back to the project another day. The sun is finally shining here again (who says it never rains in Arizona?!) and I gotta go ride those horses!

Print both links off, ride the horses and peruse the documents at your leisure Struggling.

Any issues, shout up.

I wonder if I could also suggest a couple wee things here, as well.

Once the Recovery Disks are created, it's helpful to have a step by step set of instructions on what to do and in what order all printed out ... and tucked away as a little package for the day the 'computer nasty' hits.

In addition, you may wish to keep the newest back-up disks of your favourite programs, email addresses, etc, in the same place ... having computer woes can be daunting enough without loosing precious things (like family photos) forever - eep!

The lovely thing about our site here is the kind and skilled people are always willing to help - and best of all, never laugh at those of us who are 'struggling' - gentle smile.
