Mara Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 That is an adorable photo, Bob and I must say I'm pea-green with envy that you were a freelance photographer - wow! Photos are magic to me and although I spend many hours restoring old photo for 'oldies but goodies' that so want to pass these memories on once day, I can't take a good photo for love nor money! There's a huge difference between taking photos and being a photographer - and indeed, you must have the magic required! :). Hope you will share some more that you took, please. Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Are you talking about using stuff like Paint Shop Mara? Quote
Mara Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 When restoring photos for my darling elderly people, yes. But I don't use Paint Shop, Wolfeymole, although that works great too. I have various programs that I use, simply because I've found that no matter how good each is, often it's only one or two thing within each that do a specific job particularly well. There's really (for me) two objectives when working with these lovely people that have such memories - both in their minds and in the form of rather tattered photographs. The scanning and restoring of old photos that have been ripped, crunched, faded - often so badly that faces are only recognizable when enlarging massively to work on them. And the ones that truly touch my heart ... when an elderly person hands me a photo that they wish to have added to the bundle holding their Last Will ... to be used in newspapers and with their Funeral handouts one day. They want to look like themselves - yet without perhaps quite so many wrinkles or without that one drooping eyelid etc. But I have one hard rule - for myself, I never ever edit a photo of me - huge smile! (I apologize Bob, I never intended to steal your thread with such a long explanation - feel free to boo and hiss at me! :)). Quote
BeeCeeBee Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Mara I suspect there is not a soul on earth who would boo or hiss at you!! Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Mark Twain
Guest Wolfeymole Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 What can you do with the pic of my old man in my album Mara, it's a bit tatty. Quote

BeeCeeBee Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 A handsome Gent Bob - of course unlike Mara you really have hijacked this thread! Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Mark Twain
Mara Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Oh dear, we really are swiping our poor Bob's thread - gentle smile. But Wolfeymole, I will be more than happy to repair the photo of your ever so handsome dear father! I shall send you via IM my email address as could you please send it as an attachment at the highest resolution possible (eg. 300 dpi)? But if you only have it at a lower one, please don't worry, I'll still do my very best with it. (For those of you who may be wondering ... the dpi affects how many 'dots' or pixels a photo contains ... the more the merrier when replacing each tiny one!). Quote
Mara Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 And now, if you'll forgive me for wandering astray, Bob, could you please share lots of photos that you've taken? And perhaps add which are your favourites and why? Quote

BeeCeeBee Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 :o Sorry bob12a, the Bob I was referring to Wolfeymole. You did not hijack your own thread and Mara is incapable of doing something so dastardly. ;) Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Mark Twain
