Let's see if I get this right so your PC is working normally apart from the fact that you don't get anything coming up on the screen?

sorry , when i turn it on by the power switch all that happens is a red light on the front of the base unit , fans going and a green light on the mother board .

thats it , the screen says no input of somthing like that .

if that makes sense

No 'signal input' issue:

1.Check that the monitor is well connected to the graphic card.

2.Try to remove and install your graphic card again.

'On/Off' button issue

Check that the wires from the On/Off button are connected properly to the motherboard if you do not know how to do this please tell us what is your motherboard make and model.

Hope this helps,

i think the no signal imput issue is down to the pc not turning on as its connected right and ive taken the card out and made sure it was ok .

the wires on the on / off button look ok to me and connected right .

the motherboard is an ASUS P5S800-VM/S .

i know its not the best you can get but it does what i need it for .

When did this happen? Did it happen when you turned it off and then on?

I'm not sure if you have a faulty psu, but i don't think so. Can you replace the psu, for another one that you may have?

So far I have seen nothing that indicates that your monitor is actually working. Have you tried it on another PC. The one you are using to communicate with us for example.

Are you getting any sounds, either windows sounds or motherboard sounds?

no i havent tryed it on another pc , im on my laptop .

i would say the monitor is fine as it turns on fine , it cant show anything on the screen as the pc wont come on .

as the pc wont come on.

The PC is on other wise you wouldnt have fans spinning and lights. You just not getting any signal to the monitor.

Can you connect the laptop to the monitor? If so try that

The fact that the monitor turns on does not mean that it is capable of receiving a signal from your PC. Please attach it to the laptop!!

so lets say the monitor is broke , that stops the power light comming on the pc and makes the light for the hard drive stay on insted of flashind and it stops you turning it off

Diurno and I seem to be on the same track so I will leave you to it. If this is not solved tonight and the fans are running normally do not shut the PC down unless you can do so by holding the power button down.

A cold shut down (removing the power cord or unplugging ) can do serious damage to your hard drive.

how do you put the monitor on to the laptop ?

just plug it in or do you have to do somthing else ?

Normally, you just have to plug it in and possibly press some of the FN keys if you have them. Try it and tell us if it works

On my laptop you have to press FN+F5. Try that

If FN+F5 doesn't work, then check your laptop manual!

Since the monitor works we now know that we are probably not missing anything that would be visible on the screen. Unless there is a physical problem with the connection (doubtful) the problem is probably either the motherboard or graphics card.

There are a few ways of trying to break it down but even if the problem is pinned down it isn't going to be fixed or replaced at this hour.

I would suggest that you wait for one of our hardware specialists to come on in the morning or later on.

Please keep in mind what I said about doing a cold shut down. If the fans are quiet you are better off letting it run.

The hard drive light being on is the indicator of something wrong here.

It should come on and then flicker on and off.

Can you disconnect all USB devices and try again - sounds odd, but sometimes it does make a difference.

How comfortable are you going inside the PC and removing the memory and power connectors?

If you are ok with that, switch off at the mains, take the side cover off, first thing is to check for dust build up - if there is alot, take a 1" or so paintbrush or similar and brush out the dust and debris. You may need to blast it out with an air blaster - some people just blow it away - if you do, close your eyes!

Ther next thing to do is reseat the memory and power connector. Take out your sticks of memory and put them back in, making sure they are secure.

Do the same with the large power connector and the 4 pin power connector.

If you need help, come back and ask.

Try it again, what happens?

If that doesn't work, next step is to disconnect all CD and DVD drives and the hard drive, and boot again, do you see the startup screen ?

If not, then it's a possible PSU fault, or a board fault.
