Guest David Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Hello All, Two of our 50 offices in the company are moving into one new office space. The two 2003 servers in these two offices are going to be moved into this new office. One of the server uses 192.168.10.0/255 subnet, and the other one uses 192.168.11.0/255 subnet. After moving into the new space, they will all be using 192.168.12.0/255 subnet. These two servers are both DCs, DHCPs, DNS servers in their current office. My questions are: 1). Do I need to disjoin these servers and rejoin them to domain again after moving into the new space? or I can simply move them into the new office and change their IPs, then they will be able to service client PCs? 2). What other things I need to be aware of when moving servers in situations like this? Can you give me your advise and experience if possible? Thanks!

If you don't change the domain or subdomain if you have some, don't remove them. Normally it should be enough to change the ip's. Check DNS after it and also run dcdiag and netdiag that you can be sure everything is ok. Check the event viewer for errors. Don't forget to change the DHCP scope options for the clients. > 2). For the Active directory replication it is important that you not shut down the server longer then the tombstone lifetime. If you not change it, the default is 60 days. So make the move as short as possible for the downtime. Also check with replmon, that replication with the rest of the domain is in good condition before shutting down. You have to plan the connectivity over WAN to the rest of your domain, Router configuration, ISP or leased line connection (i assume the same way like now?). Also take time for the moving itself, not during lunch time, :-) so that you can post here if errors/problems occur and you have time for corrections. Make a backup of data/system state BEFORE starting. > Thanks! >
