BlueDevil Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Hi Just upgraded son's pc with new mb Gigabyte GA 73pvm-s2h and Core 2 Duo E7200 processor. My query is that the case fan is not running apart from initial movement when pc boots and then nothing. Only have 160gig hdd and one dvd. Also gforce 8600gto graphics 256k and 2 gig system ram. The PSU is a 450watt Jeantech. Do I require a new PSU? Quote
Diurno Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Hello BlueDevil. Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help! You can use this website to calculate your wattage requirement. It is normally pretty accurate. If they say that your wattage requirement is below 450W then can you please disconnect all fans and hardware which is not essential to start PC, and try again. BlueDevil Posted January 4, 2009 Author Posted January 4, 2009 Thanks for the reply Diurno Seems like I have enough Watts i.e.450 but maybe have to look at amps although I would be surprised if the problem lies there but you never know. The other thing I have thought of is whether the MoBo has some kind of onboard controller for the case fan, is this possible? In the mean time I'll try your suggestion and post again. Thanks Quote
Diurno Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Hello BlueDevil, Looks like I misread your question so you saying that everything works perfectly apart from the case fan? Quote Intel Quad Core Q6600Asus Maximus Extreme2.5Gb DDR3 1066Mhz (2Gb OCZ Gold Edition & 512Mb Generic)ATI Radeon HD2600XT
BlueDevil Posted January 4, 2009 Author Posted January 4, 2009 Yes that's right, everything ok apart from case fan. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough at first. When I boot pc, fan moves slightly but does not spin up at all! Quote
Diurno Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 (edited) Ha, ok glad we are on the same page!! :D Does that happen to all the fans or do you just have one fan? How are you connecting the fan? To the motherboard or directly to psu? Edited January 5, 2009 by BeeCeeBee Quote Intel Quad Core Q6600Asus Maximus Extreme2.5Gb DDR3 1066Mhz (2Gb OCZ Gold Edition & 512Mb Generic)ATI Radeon HD2600XT
BlueDevil Posted January 5, 2009 Author Posted January 5, 2009 Hi Just the one case fan connected to the mobo, that's all! The only others are the processor fan and the one incorporated in the psu. This is why I can't understand why it doesn't work. Quote
