Hi All,

Newbie so Hi again....

Can someone help please as I'm running around in circles.

Have an AcerPower Desktop F6 running XP pro from new.

I made some "restore to factory defualts" dvd's some time ago, went to use them but checked them first - they are corrupt. Went to make some new one's from the Acer Empowering software " erecovery " and that won't run either.

Went to acer website and can find driver downloads for acerpower f6 for xp but can only find empowering software for Vista, tried that, made things alot worse.

Acer Europe - Service & Support, Drivers & Utilities, Downloads, Desktop, Acer Power F6

Anyone know where I can download the correct acer empowering utilities for acerpower f6 for xp pro please............................

or should the vista empowering software of worked and i did something wrong?

The Vista version will not work.

The Vista version would create at least 2 DVD's from images installed on your PC. XP will be totally different.

Have you tried Alt & F10 during boot, that should take you through the recovery process. The manual describing the process is here

Having had a look around the Acer site and one or two other Acer sites I agree that your version of the software appears to not be available.

Don't know why that should be but if you still cannot recover your system I would contact Acer.

I sincerely THANK YOU

I did not dare attempt a factory default restore without the dvd's Acer insist you make, I thought I would kill the lot, until you informed me of your knowledge.

I did not know you could do it, just from the hidden partition.

they (Acer) insist you make those disks, so much.

Thank you again.

Looking good just waiting for the 14 Acer launch tools to install ( quickly unpluged internet, just incase)

Really pleased. Cheers

Question, would a good dvd factory default dvd, restore to any other HDD than the one with the hidden partition (HDD) from Acer.

You dont have to answer......I'll just try it.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help.

Most recovery disks will not continue the restoration process unless they are run on the same computer on which the disks were created, or at least till the computers are of the same brand. So, try as you might, the results won't be very fruitful.

That's an interesting question......

Are you asking if you can use your recovery DVD to install your operating system onto another computer - answer is an absolute NO.

As Goku points out, if you attempt use on another system it will fail - a BIOS check is carried out during the recovery process.

However, if your hard drive fails on your PC, then yes you could fit a new hard drive and use the recovery DVD to restore your system to factory standard.

Good to hear you are up and running again :)
