Hi All,

Could someone please help when i turn my pc on i get a page come up saying that windows could not start as there is a software or hardware problem.

after a load of other blurb it says i can start in either safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, or start windows normally.

I've tried every one of these but it just goes through the motions and comes back to the same page again.

any ideas what i can do i have an OEM of windows so i don't have a disk with xp on

Hi Penguin, Can you give us some details, make of your computer and model number, since you are in this section I assume the operating system is XP yes?

Do you hear any POST beeps as the system starts up, and if so what order are they in, if more than one?

hi

the pc has no name or model as it was custom built by insurance company after old one got hit by lightning.

yes it is running xp and i get one beep but not sure what you mean by when, i am a pc dummie

Is one beep normal for your pc when it was working? can you remember?

If its getting up to asking for "boot in safe mode" etc then maybe it's past POST (power on self test) but not always so. One beep can mean no PG (power good) signal from the power supply, can also mean dirty/faulty ram chip, do you know what bios you have, award? ami?

You say you have no xp install disk, can you lend one? or better still something like a powersuite 2008 boot cd

you have another pc with internet access, can it burn an iso cd.

not that you should ever use a peer to peer download network but you could download a real copy of powersuite or try to lend one. or lend an xp home or xp pro install cd (which ever you are using) to run system recovery. with no boot cd at all, ur a little stuck.
