please help!! Just had to have a complete reinstall and since then everything ok except when i switch user to my hubands desktop, my broadband disconnects, it reconnects ok but then come my main prob, when i switch back to my desktop my view is now elongated, so instead of filling the whole screen its a wide band in the middle. And because of this, the icons in my tray including my clock are now off screen and i cant access them, when i switch back to my husbands desktop his now also looks like this, the only way out of it is to restart, not a good idea as we are back and forth between each others desktop frequentlly each day, any help is gratefully received, thanking you in advance:)

Hi Handbaggirl

This is most peculiar, did you reinstall the correct graphics driver for the machine when you reformatted?

Your post is a little confusing as to what actually happened after the re-install.

What make and model is the box that you have?

I had the reinstall done at pc world and I have an e-machine, the install was done via my recovery discs. When I first started up i had the old windows xp without the last 4yrs worth of updates and changes. Since then, windows has done a lot of updates and my system looks like it did before the crash i now have tab browsing too.Basically after the reinstall I just began everything as if it was a brand new machine, installed my broadband and avg, zonealarm, firefox (as a back up browser) the only thing thats not working as normal is when switching between user, it then changes the desktops to this weird wide band effect, Im not very experienced as yyou can see, so grateful for help

Peculiar is the right word.

Try going to your desktop and right click on a blank space. The properties window should come up. Go to settings and make sure the view you see is consistent with your monitor.

Hello Handbaggirl. Press the Windows Logo + Print Screen|SysRq key on your keyboard. This should bring up the System Properties window. What does it say under the General tab?

Done that, seems to look the right size, there are 2 screen sizes to choose from and number 1 seems the right one, my desktop is fine on startup. fills the whole monitor, as dos my husbands, it only happens when we switch between user

Right click on the My Computer icon and select Properties. That should bring up the required information.

Also, what is the make and model number of your computer? You might be missing the drivers.

wondered if its the monitor its self, its a plug and play, and the menu comes up but i cant access it, the auto screen size is showing 79.5 74 and i think i read someplace it should be 48.08 72.2 but i cant change it.

Go back to the screen where you saw the no 1. What does it say under screen reolution.

Then do it again when it is in the wrong configuration.

Switching back and forth is easy enough. If you have a screen that is shaped like that in 2 by all means switch to 2 and see if it retains its setting. On the other hand if it is widescreen 2 should not apply.

If all is well then it will not let you switch if the change does not apply to the monitor that is installed. Am I correct in assuming that you have a widescreen monitor?

Some pcs come with a separate disc that covers the monitor. What discs do you have?

none , its a plug and play monitor, so i basically just turned it on,i dont think id call it a wide screen its more square the booklet it comes with calls it TFT LCD monitor

. When all is said and done, when i switch on the computer, i get a full screen display, so there must be something happening only when i go to switch user mode, i have already uninstalled my husband from the computer and reinstalled him but still the problem remains.
