Guest Beau Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Hello All! First, sorry if this is in the wrong forum and second, sorry but I am new and inexperienced at this. I administer my brother's company of about 15 people and everything is fine and running smooth on my limited knowledge. However, recently the need to re-direct users "my Documents" folders from their local "c" drive to their "personal" folder (P drive) on the network store has emerged. I know this can be done, but I have no idea how do it. I think it has something with the roaming profiles and stuff. Can any take the time to help me or direct me to a website that would have the instructions. Thank y ou VERY much... -- Beau

The 1st time it will ask if you want to move all the documents to the new location. select yes. Here we have a shared "users" folder on one of the servers with a folder for each individual user.

This is a really easy & good thing to do with Group Policy. If you aren't familiar with that, play with it a little - on W2003 you can use the Group Policy Management Console snapin (which is very nice indeed). Try lurking in microsoft.public.windows.group_policy for a while and perhaps post questions there....you should get a lot of help. How to Configure Folder Redirection http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/ab9f7e44-afbf-415e-ade1-94aaf2392ca11033.mspx?mfr=true Profile and FolderRedirection in Windows Server 2003 http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Profile-Folder-Redirection-Windows-Server-2003.html (also has info on roaming profiles, but be careful with those!) .....I would redirect My Documents, Desktop, and Application Data ....choose the option for "basic - redirect all users to the same folder" and "create a folder under the root path." E.g., \\server\users$\%username%\My Documents \\server\users$\%username%\Desktop \\server\users$\%username%\Application Data
