Guest sqeet Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 I have a client that is using a Quantum DLT-V4 on a Windows 2003 server with ntbackup to perform backups. I recently tried to restore a single file from one of the tapes and received an error: "An inconsistency has been enountered on the requested media" The backups seem to be performing properly, as there have been no errors pertaining to a failed backup on the server. I tried to restore from multiple different tapes and I get the same error. Any ideas on what i can try to resolve this? -- sqeet ------------------------------------------------------------------------ sqeet's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=33627 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=838840 http://forums.techarena.in

Guest sqeet Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Re: ntbackup restore problem No. They havent tried to on the current setup before. This backup system has only been in place for a couple months. -- sqeet ------------------------------------------------------------------------ sqeet's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=33627 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=838840 http://forums.techarena.in

If I was in your position then I would do a few test backups & recoveries to see if things work as expected. It is a common omission for inexperienced server administrators to skip testing a backup system after installation. A backup solution must only be considered complete after a representative chunk of data has been recovered.

I would need to perform a manual backup followed by a manual restore to convince myself that the process works the way it is supposed to.
Guest sqeet Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Re: ntbackup restore problem Manual backup does work. I've done that. Manual restore does not. If you found yourself in this situation, what would you do? -- sqeet ------------------------------------------------------------------------ sqeet's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=33627 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=838840 http://forums.techarena.in
